New Urban Legend! Anyone heard about Hormel?
by gaiagirl ina member of another conservative cult (calls itself a bible fellowship) where i work told me that hormel, the makers of canned chili and other foods, is run by homosexuals, and that i shouldn't buy or eat their products.
i asked how the bedroom practices of the company owners or employees affected the quality of the food?
their reply was that "everything gives off something" and that the food would be tainted by some kind of deviant unnatural vibes because the owners/employees were deviant and following an unnatural lifestyle.

Let's just get something straight about 1975.
by WTFBBQPWNT innobody ever said that the end was coming in 1975.. all the hype about this date that has continued all the way down through today came from a talk in the early 70's by fred franz.
in this talk, franz pointed out the significance of the 7 creative days and how they correspond with 1,000-year time intervals.. he then said, "could the end come in 1975?
there's so much wrong with jehovah's witnesses from their rigid legalism to their faux love, but let's call a spade a spade about the 1975 thing..

I just about jumped through my screen when I read the comments of this alphabet person "WTF...". I thought he has to be too young to have been there in 1975 and the years before so what does he know. Then I read the comment that maybe he just wanted to get a rise out of us all. And this comment by Lady Liberty made a lot of sense.
You may be right. But in the meantime, don't forget about all the lurkers who are coming here new to the forum everyday . Many post, but who knows how many thousands are just observing and taking it all in, in order to make a informed decision. So no matter what the original posters motive was, we reached alot of people with this today
My sentiments exactly. And all the contributed scans and quotations will do just that!!
Who can now argue that the r&f are all to blame for jumping ahead of the WTS when so many of us were lead to believe "this is it...we just don't know the exact day or hour like the Bible says"?
Why wouldn't we believe that which we had been groomed to believe from birth? I was there too and lived it. I didn't blow things out of proportion or make it up. I listened to the elders and CO's like I had been taught to do from birth.
I'm actually glad now that WTF... brought up this subject with his absurd statement. He's just opened up the way for the truth to wipe out the lame excuses the JWs are giving out now about 1975. And the JWs now are just doing the exact same thing we did back then...they're listening to what the elders and WTS are saying and unquestioningly accepting it and repeating it.
So now instead of jumping down WTF...'s throat for his uninformed comment, I'll say THANKS for giving us the opportunity to tell the truth to those lurking who have never heard what really went on in the 60's and 70's.

WT's PATHETIC FUNERAL OUTLINE
by Mary inthis is supposed to be an outline for a jw funeral talk.
i'm not sure if this has been posted before but i thought i'd post here for your viewing pleasure.
funeral discourse.

If the talk lasted 30 minutes, approximately 3 or 4 mintues would be spent talking about the deceased. That's it. The rest of the talk is to promote the Borg and preach at everyone there. No wonder so many "worldly" people are disgusted at Witness funerals.........
I have known of several JW funerals where non-JWs literally got up and walked out as a sign of their disgust in the "preaching" tone of the talk rather than the consoling and respectful message it should have been.Even some JWs have questioned..."when are they going to mention anything about the deceased or the family?".
However, years ago, back in the 70-80's, I remember one particular elder who was very near and dear to me. He was well known for his heartfelt funeral talks among the JWs and the funeral home directors. They all appreciated his down-to-earth, loving manner in which he paid respect to the deceased and to the family....like it should be. But then...he obviously was not your basic, stereo-type JW elder I think. And I've often thought...if he was alive now, he would probably me among us today on JWD.

Honesty says:
A copy of the email sent to JW's would be nice.
I would copy it here if I could, but I don't want to take the chance of possibly exposing the one who sent it to me.
It's very short and instead of just only paraphrasing it in my own words, I have put some of the significant parts of it in quotations in a few of my posts to try and get their point across...such as:
By clicking onto the link, "you can see the far right of the page, there is a vote-on feature"... and... "the brothers are asking as many witnesses as possible to vote yes"....and... "If you want to vote on it, it would help to give a good public response".
So please, I hope you all can accept just these exerpts only from the email. They are plain enough by themselves without revealing to much about its origin.
Thanks,

Funny how hard some try to bring anything and put a negative spin on it. This is a newspaper poll, so nothing to do with politics
How are we trying to put a negative spin on this. I simply related what the JWs themselves are urging each other to do. Their own emails are urging other JWs to vote in this opinion poll because as one said "the brothers are asking as many witnesses as possible to vote yes. If you want to vote on it, it would help to give a good public response."
Yes it is only an opinion poll but this poll is being used to find out public opinion which will be considered when it comes time to make a "political decision".
Even funnier how a comment was made that JW's are trying to sway the vote to YES, but in the same token here we are trying to do the same thing to sway the vote to NO.
I don't find this funny at all. If the JWs ARE "trying to sway the vote to YES" by getting as many other JWs as possible to add their YES vote to the count...does that mean we should just sit back and watch?....or should we maybe TRY to even things out a bit by adding our opinion to the vote. That's all this opinion poll is asking....just what does the public think about this subject.
Sometimes I just don't get it. Many of us have spent the majority of our lives locked into this "yes master"..."whatever you say master"..."no questions asked and no opposing opinion offered" type of thinking. When we finally break free of it, what do we do? Do we sit back and just watch others waste their lives in this kind of thinking or do we try to do whatever we can to try to stir things up a little at a time.... no matter how little it is or how insignificant it may seem to be to others?
Had Enough (of the "I want to do whatever I can, no matter how little it is, to hopefully help someone to start thinking on their own" class)

This is just an opinion poll by a newspaper.
The very subject title of my thread stated just that.....this is a poll about whether we think a group deserves to be given tax exemption status.
I never said it was about JWs voting...just that the JWs were emailing each other to "VOTE" in this poll to "influence public opinion" towards the JWs so that they might become tax exempt....although there really is a fine line between "voting" in an opinion poll to try and influence others' opinion when it does come time to vote, and actually voting in a political decision.
I don't see the advantage of organizing the "world apostate movement" to all "vote" opposite of what the JWs want, unless you just want to overload the server of the newspaper.
I'm not doing this. I'm making the rest of us aware of what the JWs are trying to do to influence public opinion in their own favour. Maybe you don't see the advantage of doing this but do we just sit back and continue to do NOTHING!!!? If we can do anything to make the world AWARE of what the JWs do to manipulate things, shouldn't we at least try????
This issue isn't just about JWs, it involves other churches and non-profit groups. If this poll were influential in changing policy, would we be willing to possibly hurt other non-profits just to spite the WTS?
This issue IS about the JWs because that's what the poll question is asking. The poll specifies the JWs in asking the public to vote YES or NO to their question. It is not asking us to vote about other non-profit groups...just the JWs. So that's why I'm asking people to answer this poll and give their opinion about whether they think JWs should contribute to their community through taxes or be tax exempt.
A YES vote says change their status and allow them to become tax exempt which is what the JWs want.
A NO vote says keep their status as having to pay taxes to the community and NOT BEING TAX EXEMPT.
What's wrong with trying to keep the playing field even?

Hi everyone:
445 39 The JWs YES vote is still way ahead folks. They are trying hard to sway public opinion to get the council to change their current law which will then make the JWs tax exempt in this area.
Every NO vote will help to keep JWs paying taxes to support the community instead of feeding off it.
Just click on this link and look to the top far right of the page for the box to submit your vote.
Thanks,

So much for jw neutrality in politics and leaving it in jehovah's hands
Yes. The fact that the JWs are sending out emails to get other JWs to vote was a puzzlement to me.
I suppose they explain it away by saying they're only voting in an "opinion poll" and not the actual political vote. BUT...what they ARE doing is trying to influence public opinion by boosting the YES vote. That doesn't actually sound like being neutral to me.
Arwen:
Thanks for voting. Every little bit helps.
